Synopsis: It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. The young King Nash clings to his throne while rebel lords in the north and south build armies to unseat him. The mountains and forests are filled with spies and thieves and lawless men.
This is where Fire lives. With a wild, irresistible appearance and hair the color of flame, Fire is the last remaining human monster. Equally hated and adored, she had the unique ability to control minds, but she guards her power, unwilling to steal the secrets of innocent people. Especially when she has so many of her own.
Then Prince Brigan comes to bring her to King City, The royal family needs her help to uncover the plot against the king. Far away from home, Fire begins to realize there's more to her power than she ever dreamed. Her power could save the kingdom.
If only she weren't afraid of becoming the monster her father was.
My Thoughts:
It seems the reviews are mixed on this one. I think several people are too hung up on the fact that this book is not Graceling. I went in to chapter one with zero expectations- only curiosity and I think that's why I enjoyed this book so much. I loved that this was a connection to the world that Katsa and Po live in but that it was still completely it's own in so many ways. I actually kind of like how it fits in with Katsa and Po's story. I didn't expect that at all. By part 2 things had got intense and I was excited to see where this was going to go. I'll admit that I didn't see part 3 coming as far as Archer was concerned. I loved the emotional highs and lows of this book. I love a book that takes me on a ride and is wildly inventive in the meantime. It's still early in the year but this has been my favorite read of 2013 so far.
What's Next?
The Death Cure by James DashnerI read the first two books in the Maze Runner series last year and then I got side tracked by other books. I think it's high time I got some closure from this story! I need the same answers Thomas is trying to get!

I thought the same thing about Fire - I didn't mind that it wasn't a continuation, but rather a new story. Now you'll have to finish up with Bitterblue - can't wait to see what you think about that one.
ReplyDeleteIt's on my list! I was kind of surprised to see some people rating Fire so low. In some ways I actually thought it was better than Graceling. Hmm... I guess to each his own!
