3 Books to Read When You're Snowed In

What to rea

Last week it snowed a lot here. There was one day where I didn't venture out at all. After the housework was finished, I picked up my book. It inspired me to share with you 3 books that I think would be perfect for a day at home. These are books that you won't be able to put down and can easily speed through in one day.

For me, it's usually a thriller that will keep me reading all day long. It's got to have great twists and turns and have me gasping out loud, dying to know what will happen next. Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was like this. I had to know how it would end so I couldn't stop until I finished.

With all the vampire, werewolf and faerie books out there, it's easy to become numb to all things supernatural. The antidote? Darkhouse introduces two real and unforgettable characters, Perry Palomino & Dex Foray, amateur ghost hunters who are "attractive, relatable and oddly heroic," "flawed but loveable," "slightly crazy" and just the most endearing pair to ever tackle the paranormal...just don't call them normal. Darkhouse is a thrilling and sexy new take on concepts like Supernatural and The X-Files, bringing a breath of fresh air to a genre that has been inundated with the dead.

Consequences by Aleatha Romig

Besieged by memories of a brutal abduction, Claire Nichols wakes in an unfamiliar bedroom, within a luxurious mansion. Her recollections have one common denominator, the man she just met, Anthony Rawlings.

Unbeknownst to Claire, for a very long time, she has been within Anthony’s sights. Many of the pivotal events in her life occurred, due to his sinister manipulation. Every action has a consequence, and his actions result in their chance meeting.

More than a psychological thriller, Consequences is a vivid story of one woman’s struggle to survive incomprehensible circumstances. Every aspect of her being suddenly depends upon the tall, wealthy, dark haired, dark eyed businessman. Anthony Rawlings is known to the world as prosperous, benevolent, and kind. Claire quickly learns that he can also be a menacing controlling captor.

Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption. When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide. An intriguing and sinful exploration of seduction, forbidden love and redemption, "Gabriel's Inferno" is a captivating and wildly passionate tale of one man's escape from his own personal hell as he tries to earn the impossible...forgiveness and love.

  1. It snowed here (NY) all last night and now we are snowed in too - okay, I'm at work pretending like I'm not :-) But anyway - for snowy cold days, I love a big chunky book, like you said - Girl With a Dragon Tattoo or any of the Clash of Kings series.

    1. Clash of Kings is a great one! I really need to finish that series. I got lucky and had the day off after the big snow. I'm usually okay driving in snow, I just hate the cold. I'd rather be cozied up on the couch.

  2. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we are almost never snowed in here in Ga., but I would lobby for Smilla's Sense of Snow.

    1. Ooh! Good choice. I consider you fortunate :) I'm a sunshine girl and I'd be happy with it only snowing on Christmas Day and that's it.

  3. I think thrillers are a great way to spend a snow day. I'm a big John Grisham fan and would totally curl up in a chair with a blanket and read his books all day long.

    1. Same here! Although, if I'm snowed in and home alone, it'd have to be a thriller that didn't also scare the pants off of me or get my wild imagination churning. :)

  4. I still haven't finished reading The Shining! But it's really good and I think it would be a good snowy day book :)
